Alternatives
A Play.ht alternative, now that it has shut down
Play.ht’s website announced “We have shut down the service” in early January 2026, and the domain no longer serves a site. If you used it for narration or its API, Voxmint covers that: ready-made voices, voices designed from a description, and a REST API. If you used Play.ht to clone voices, Voxmint is not a replacement.

Choose Voxmint if
- You need narration or voiceovers in many languages, including Asian languages.
- You called the Play.ht API from your own code and need a REST API with a key.
- You want a voice that sounds the same every time, from the catalogue or from your own description.
Questions
- Is Play.ht still available?
- No. Its homepage announced “We have shut down the service” in early January 2026, and play.ht no longer serves a site.
- Can Voxmint clone my Play.ht voice?
- No. Voxmint does not clone voices. You can describe the voice you had (age, accent, tone, pace) and design a new one, or choose a catalogue voice.
- Do I need to change my code?
- Yes. The Voxmint API has its own endpoints and keys. A request needs the text and a voice id; the API page has curl and Python examples.
